HAIKU WORKSHOP IMAGE

“Let the Spring Breeze Enter”

Haiku Writing Workshop

Saturday, April 18th, 10:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M.

Ezra Pound has described poetry as “condensed language.” At seventeen or less sounds, the haiku is the most condensed poetic form. Workshop participants will:

~ experience a complete immersion into the world of haiku;

~ get an overview of the structure and sensibility of writing haiku from making initial observations, evoking inspiration, structuring, and completing traditional style haiku;

~ review content, structure and style for individual and linked haiku styles that contribute to a successful English language haiku;

~ explore the potential layers of meaning and emotion along with philosophical and spiritual implications that are condensed into these terse, brief, concise, evocative simple poems.

About the Facilitator

 Seiso Paul Cooper, Sensei is the author of books, articles and poems. His poems have been published internationally and translated into Japanese, Russian, Hungarian and Italian. Ryaku Fusatsu

Full Moon Bodhisattva Ceremony

Ryaku Fusatsu, the Full Moon Bodhisattva Ceremony is practiced monthly by Zen groups throughout the world. This age-old tradition finds its roots with the historical Buddha Shakyamuni and provides a wonderful occasion to appreciate the precepts in shared group practice. Repentance and renewal of our practice vows are the core themes, which are central and help to keep our practice vital, meaningful and alive.

This formal ceremony includes zazen, chanting and full bows.

Two Rivers Zen Community offers the Full Moon Bodhisattva Ceremony monthly on the Thursday evening closest to the full moon date at the Court Street Zendo. Participation is an opportunity to maintain our connection to the Bodhisattva path with the support of the group energy of the sangha [Zen community]. Please join us in support of this important aspect of our practice program. Everyone is welcome.

108 Bells OSHOGATSU

NEW YEAR’S EVE CELEBRATION

Tuesday,  12/31,  9:00 P.M.

Seiso Paul Cooper and Karen Morris invite you to the ringing of the temple bells on New Year’s Eve, at the Court Street Zendo in Honesdale. Oshogatsu is the Japanese Buddhist celebration through which we banish the “108 troublesome desires of human-kind,” to begin the New Year fresh. Please join us at the Two Rivers Zen Community Court Street Zendo, for the ringing of the temple bell. Sink into the beautiful spaciousness between each bell, as we sit together for Peace, followed by a traditional waka writing party, in the Imperial style (!!!), and write the first poems of the new year, with, of course, champagne and hot sake.

Waka is a traditional Japanese 5 line, 31 syllable form, that is easy to learn and written and read aloud in Japan on each New Year’s Day.

Please help us celebrate the peace of the coming year.

     “Come, come quickly New Year’s Day.”

When: 9:00 pm, Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013

Where: 926 Court St., Honesdale, PA

Bells begin at 9:30 and finish at 9:45

Rohatsu Sesshin, considered to be the strongest retreat of the year functions as  a powerful container that supports integration of body and mind, and our individuality with the community and the world. We invite you to join us for all or part of this year’s Rohatsu Sesshin as a way to strengthen, deepen and honor your practice through the shared energy of group practice.
