Sesshin (Retreats)
Seiso Roshi with Lotus Temple Sangha, Lincoln, NE. Autumn Sesshin October 5 – 7, 2018
Two Rivers Zen Community offers periodic residential and non-residential retreats. Sesshin literally means touching the heart. Sesshin functions as a traditional focal point of intensified Zen practice. Its an opportunity to open into a deeper practice through silent and intensive practice. Participants take part in a unique integration of the retreat’s topic and Zen training, through the support and encouragement of group practice and through private interviews with the teacher.
Retreats begin with an opportunity to meet and greet other participants socially before entering into deep and committed silence. Instructions in zazen (Zen meditation) and an orientation to zendo protocol are available to newcomers. A firm commitment to raising the mind of open awareness is expressed in all retreat activities: including kinhin (walking meditation), services, work practice and dharma talks. The silent aspect of the retreat concludes with council, which gives all participants an opportunity to share their sesshin experiences with the group.
